According to the World Health Organisation 2014 report „Preventing suicide – A global imperative“ every 40 seconds a person dies by suicide somewhere in the world. Globally, suicides account for 50% of all violent deaths in men and 71% in women. Notably, among young people 15-29 years of age, suicide is the second leading cause of death globally.
Northern Serbia has one of the highest suicide rates in Europe. There is no simple explanation for this: The reasons might be of social, psychological or cultural circumstances. Kornél B. was 29 years old when he committed suicide on December 19, 2010. The reason for his early death is still unclear. The pictures show the path that he is supposed to have taken to the spot where he shot himself. I walked down this last walk and took a picture every 100 steps. 3574 steps that did not make him turn around and reconsider his decision.
